Gamifying mHealth: Surgery App Innovation

We are progressively moving towards a value-based system in healthcare that depends heavily on technology to deliver quality care, involve patients and improve results.

New developments in technology is now proving that this is the only way we can increase efficiency of care management and reduce costs in both money and time.

Technology is altering not only how physicians interface with and treat patients, it is altering the very nature of medicine. Thousands of years ago, Hippocrates said:

“..He will manage the cure best who has foreseen what is to happen from the present state of matters…”

In Sutures App, we have created a gamified but life-like anatomy engine that can help the physician to foresee. This engine is the very first in the world, we must say. Together with our medical partner: Jiraha Association, we found the algorithms of each organ when healthy and malfunctioning; the bio-inspired mechanism that we incorporated in the engine proved to be the essence of innovation. This interactive anatomy engine helps the surgeon to foresee the medical case, allows you to do any techniques possible, train your surgical problem-solving, all of this even before laying a scalpel on the patient bodies. We understood, in the early stages of the project, that the only way we can infuse evolution into the medical practice is by altering it from inside out. That means – we needed to always respect the laws of nature and work around the edges using biomimicry techniques.

It was months of mind-altering experiences for everyone involved in the project. Despite the language of communication between engineers and doctors was superficially different. In time, we all realized that we speak the same language: Nature.

The developer team started to admire and respect how complex yet beautiful the code of the liver organ is, for instance. On the other hand, the doctors realized how their practice can go beyond the operational room and into all those hyper-connected networks of devices in this world at a blink of an eye.
