Fail Small, Learn Quickly, Win Big. What Gives?

Fail Small

In the context of innovation, it is advisable to fail fast and small. As the innovator does not really have the luxury of limitless budget to fail in an entire production season. Rapid prototyping is needed to identify the gaps, the risks and the cracks in the product way before mass production / development.

Learn Quickly

By allowing the cracks in the product design to show themselves during rapid prototyping stage, you will be able to uncover learning points from these failures. You will be able to see whether you have to address environmental issues, ambiguity and uncertainty, abnormal user behavior, negative user feedback or perfectionism dilemma. It is also necessary that in this stage, coping with failures healthily, focusing on growth rather than perfectionism.

Win Big

You can definitely win big if you reach a point in your growth mindset that failures are embraced than shunned from. To facilitate your product success, always revisit your answers to the following guiding questions:

  • What are you building, and why (again)?

  • What should this new product achieve? Be as specific as possible.

  • How do we measure product success?
